Making Moves: Tricks & Tips For A Smooth Move

Moving into a new apartment is exciting, but it’s also categorized as one of the most stressful life events. Let’s be real, moving shouldn’t be stressful! It should be exciting to move into a new place, so let’s dive into a few ways that will get you moving smarter and not harder.

Pack before you pack.

We all know how it goes, the first box you pack is organized, properly padded, beautifully labeled. After an hour if you’ve resorted to stuffing that laundry basket with photo albums and winter clothes and then putting the whole thing in an unlabeled black trash bag. It happens. BEFORE you get to this point, pack a bag like you’re going on vacation. No, you’re probably not on your way to the beach, but it’s helpful to have a few items on hand when you get to your new place. Throw in a change of clothes, toiletries, pj’s, towels and a few of your other daily use items then you’re set! Now, you don’t have to worry about playing a tiring game of “where’s my toothbrush” when you get to your new place.

Packing and purging.

Packing is such a great opportunity to purge and lighten your load. It’s no secret that having less stuff makes the moving process a lot easier. The very act of moving requires you to see every item you own, holding each thing for however long it takes to pack them away in a box is also the perfect opportunity to evaluate each thing and see if that item brings a noticeable value to your life or not. Maybe packing day is the day you decide to take on that minimalist lifestyle! Interested in learning more? Check out our blog on living a minimalist life.

Important papers.

Keep your important papers accessible during the move. When moving into an apartment, it’s a good idea to create a binder (or digital folder to help reduce paper use) that stores important things such as bank info, insurance documents, social security cards, etc. This way you aren’t digging through that laundry basket of photo albums and winter clothes looking for your renters insurance.

Don’t wait.

Don’t wait until the day before your lease is up to start the packing process. Give yourself a solid 2 weeks to get ‘er done. Taking it 1 day and 1 box at a time will make moving day feel like nothing! Start with things that you don’t use daily such as seasonal items, decorations, pictures, then move to clothing, and kitchen. Another option is to consider hiring someone to do the work for you…Two Men and A Truck offer Brick Avenue Lofts future residents exclusive discounts for their upcoming move. Check out their profesh packing services! Let them know you’re moving to Brick Avenue Lofts in Bentonville, Arkansas to unlock the lower rate.

Throw a party?

You’re all moved in? You have most things unpacked? Wow look at you, probably means it’s time for that housewarming party! Open a bottle (or 9) of wine, meet your neighbors, and show off your new place to friends and family with a nice housewarming party.

So maybe you use our tips… or maybe you hire a professional team to do the work for you. Either way, the goal is to make this not the most stressful event of the year. Happy packing!
